Is CBD oil legal?

When we explain that our CBD oil is extracted from cannabis or hemp plants we are often asked if it is legal – for the avoidance of any doubt our CBD oil is 100% legal for sale in the UK.

CBD oil is a natural food supplement and 100% legal as it has no psychoactive side-effects. Even though it shares its source with cannabis, there are none of the chemicals in it that affect you like cannabis alone would.

The hallucinogenic effects of cannabis are due to a compound called Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and it is the THC in cannabis that is illegal; that’s why products sold on the high street cannot contain any more than 1mg of THC in total, per bottle.

How CBD affects the body;

We know more about the potential ‘benefits’ to be had from CBD consumption than we are at liberty to say, we base this on customer feedback and reviews and from personal use.

What we can comment on is CBD’s activity on an internal connection of receptors known as the endocannabinoid system. In the early stages of cannabis research, cannabis and cannabis plant derivatives (such as CBD) had such a powerful effect on one particular system, that they decided to name this new found system after the plant itself – the endocannabinoid system.

The endocannabinoid systems role in the body is far-reaching and includes thermoregulation (temperature control), satiety (hunger), right through to nerve transmission. In fact, endocannabinoids including CBD, CBDA, CBG, CBGA CBC, CBCA to name some of the most well-known, interact with the entire Central Nervous System (CNS) including the brain.

Other functions the endocannabinoid system appears to interact with are: fertility, pregnancy, during pre- and postnatal development, pain-sensation, mood, and memory.

We know that cannabinoids such as CBD interact with the endocannabinoid system, but how the interactions will affect you as the consumer is dependent on you and your body.

Directions for use;

Put a few drops under the tongue. Leave the oil in the mouth for 1 minute before swallowing. There are many capillaries under the tongue which transfer directly to the bloodstream bypassing the digestive system. This allows CBD to quickly enter the bloodstream and interact with the endocannabinoid system.

Initially take just a couple of drops a day for the first few days. Build up the dose slowly, for more guidance on this see our article on dosage. CBD can work differently on people, so it is important to monitor how it feels for you.

  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage of 200mg CBD.
  • As with all food supplements it is not intended to diagnose, cure or prevent any disease.
  • Always consult a doctor if you are taking any medication or if you have any concerns about taking this or any supplement.

We would love to list the health benefits that can be gained from taking CBD, but unfortunately we are not permitted to.   As CBD is classified as a food supplement, this means we cannot make or imply health benefits from consuming it.

Let’s be clear – CBD Oil can make big differences to overall health and wellbeing, but under current law anyone offering this highly specialised food supplement can’t make any health claims for it.

Despite this if you were to Google for health benefits of CBD you would find hundreds of reports of how this completely natural, legal and effective compound has helped others with a wide range of problems.

As with any nutritional supplement, the benefits can vary from person to person.  Some people benefitting more than others, depending on their state of health, pain thresholds and a whole host of other reasons.  This also applies to CBD.
